On Facebook, I saw this:
#SpecialEducationPhilippines Contest Alert: Comment below why you want to see "A Midsummer Night's Dream" of Ballet Philippines. We will raffle the tickets to all who commented by February 13 (12 midnight). Tickets for the show will be on February 16 (Saturday) at 2pm in Cultural Center of the Philippines.
Announcement of winners will be on February 14, 2013.
I wanted to watch this play, even if I wouldn't win in this contest. I do because I played Helena in college. I could still hear the voice of my Shakespeare professor, Dr. Rama's stern voice directing us and correcting our diction. Watching the play would bring back bittersweet memories, I'm sure! Ha ha
In retrospect, I was lucky in that Shakespeare class. I got to play the lead roles: Helena in this play, Ariel in Tempest, and Lady Macbeth in Macbeth. Like most of my classmates, I struggled in the recitation and class discussion, but acting in the plays helped my grade. I was even requested by Dr. Ramas to proctor her classes. Hmm... she must like me! But I was too scared of her even to appreciate that.
Too bad, I'd be out of town on business during these dates. I will definitely catch these Shakespeare plays one of these days. :)
But if you are here, do catch Ballet Philippines stage A Midsummer Night's Dream at CCP and help Special Education Philippines. Read the notes here.

I'd love to watch this! I remember this play was featured in a teen movie; Kirsten Dunst was the lead actress, can't remember the title though. This is so perfect for Valentines!
Hello dearest,
Reading about your past performances made me realize how talented you must be to play all those lead roles. I do feel bad you can't go to the show and I wish I can do something about it. But we both need more pixie dust for our wishes to come true. You know what, I believe that everything happens for a reason and I'm sure one day, it will be your turn. Helena will once again see the stage and not working out of town. :P
If you notice, Special Education Philippines is featuring several Filipinos who are gifted and talented nowadays. The page and website is packed with different forms of art. What most people don't know is that SPED includes gifted children. I think we are missing a lot of future Shakespeares and prima ballerinas to in-demand jobs because times call for us to be practical. An arts course does not really promise a lucrative future here in our country. Hopefully, we can turn that around in the future.
For me, a successful life entails not only success in money. There are so many things the Philippine education can strive for if only we can give more opportunities for our children to see other than BPO, Nursing and OFW. Not that they are not noble jobs but I just know that we can do so much more if we work just a little bit more in exploring what we can do. Don't you think?
Anyway, this post is turning out to be another blog. Hehehehe. I'm so happy to have a Special Education Philippines reader like you. It's people like you that make my profession feel as the noblest one.
Keep in touch :)
I love the story of Mid Summer Night Dream. I remember during my college days in one of the organization I'm including we were tasked to paint our impression of the Mid Summer Night Dream. I was fun!
We did Taming of the Shrew for our Shakespearean Playfest in Junior year at high school. I was the director and we won! hehe.
It would be lovely to see this, although I've never really seen a ballet except the one ballet recital of a cousin from when we were kids.
I always have this reminder to get "A MidSummer Night's Dream" (starring Michelle Pfeiffer) on video. I always procrastinate though so it has not materialized as of yet. Watching it on stage would be awesome!
I've heard about this title. When I saw Rose's comment below, I then remembered that it was from a movie. I haven't seen that movie yet and I think I'm going to download it soon.
I think this is a good show. I want to experience watching such shows. Though the venue is far from our place.
i'm familiar of the title, couldn't remember if I read it...
Hi Noria, thank you for taking the time to leave your thoughts here. :) Sorry for the late reply though. Hehe But I believe in the cause of SPED and how challenging it is to be in this industry. Teaching is indeed a noble profession. You are shaping minds and life. That is a huge reward in itself. I wish you all the best! :)
Yes, those are fun days, Marco! :)
Wow, congrats, Vera! :) That must be one memorable time in high school and am sure the topic comes up every time there's a reunion.
It's by Shakespeare, so I'm sure you've read it. LOL
Go right ahead, Jhari! :) Haven't seen the movie version of this, too.
Oh, I should watch this, too, Rose! :)
Go, watch it Lady! :)
